Introducing the Evangeline Edwardian Lace hat. Hand blocked to the style of a 1940’s percher adorned with a rare piece of Edwardian lace veiling, hand finished with Vintage Petersham ribbon tied into a bow at the back. This design celebrates the history of the lace allowing the antique textile to become an integral part of the silhouette and giving an otherwise somewhat contemporary piece the feeling of something inherited.
Its intricate construction, aged character, and softly weathered beauty are qualities that simply cannot be reproduced in newly made textiles.
The lace is entirely unique to this hat and once this piece is sold there is no replacement for the original textile so this can never be recreated.
The base is made from a beautiful wool felt from MontCapel, the last remaining company in France to produce its own hat felt, preserving this centuries old savoir-faire on beautifully restored machinery dating from 50 to 100 years old. Sourced in the Haute Vallée de l’Aude, this felt carries a distinguished French provenance and the legacy of a craft almost lost to time. I was very lucky to visit the factory last year, and this felt was so special to me that I carried it home in my suitcase and have been saving it for the perfect piece. This piece is it!!!

All hats are made to order and are constructed out of vintage dead stock ribbon, beads and applique. Fabrics, felts and straws are all carefully sought out, ensuring sustainability. I have a focus on waste reduction which is why all hats are either pre order, one of a kind or made to order.
